It FollowsI keep getting people emailing me about an article I wrote the other day where Netflix shared data about horror movies on the service that are “,” saying they turn them off when they’re more than 70% of the way through.I have had people think A) I wrote this list of the ten scariest movies (again, this is Netflix’s data, not my own choices), or that B) it’s totally bunk as most of those movies aren’t scary. I actually agree with that second point, most of the movies on that original list are more gross or disturbing than scary, other than a few, so that might be why people are turning them off. Or they just don’t like them.I wanted to write my own list as a follow-up. Not of the ten “scariest” horror movies on Netflix because everyone’s “scare tolerance” is different, and honestly, there just aren’t that many horror movies on Netflix, so it would be hard to populate a list based on fright-factor alone.So instead, here are what I think are the ten best horror movies on Netflix right now. They range from monster horror to body horror to horror comedy, but I think this is the best way to do a rundown like this.
Lars Von Trier doesn’t typically make horror movies, but his resume does operate on a diet of the unsettling (Antichrist, Dancer in the Dark). With House, a brutal drama the controversial director claims might be his last, Matt Dillon plays a serial killer, and Riley Keough and Uma Thurman are among his victims. I know people will disagree, but hey, that always happens. Here are my picks based on what’s currently on Netflix here in early 2018.
The less I say about some of these, the better. Just trust me.
It Follows (2014)For my money, It Follows is quite simply one of the best horror moviesever. The concept is bizarre; if you’re “cursed,” a demonic manifestation that can look like anyone will slowly walk toward you, wherever you are, no matter how far you run, and if it finds you, it kills you. When you die, the thing will turn to find the person who cursed you, and the “curse” is passed from person to person like an STD.

Literally, it’s sexually transmitted. That sounds like the lead-up to a lot of nudity and titillation, but It Follows is the furthest thing from that. It is incredibly disturbing and constantly tense to the point where it’s difficult to watch. The Nun is a spin-off that takes roots from the second chapter of the original movie.
If you remember the devilish nun from there, then you know what to expect this time around. The people who run this series know exactly how to appeal to their audience and how to make every new installment better than the previous one. With that said, we believe this is going to be a commercial hit, appreciated both by the fans and the critics. Halloween ReturnsIt’s been 40 years since Laurieescaped the nightmare created by Michael Myers. And now it’s time for them to meet again. This will be the final battle, the clash of the decade.
The man behind the mask killed numerous innocent people during a Halloween celebration, and he’s been poisoning her life ever since that day. This has to end.
Either Laurie will put an end to the maniac and finally find peace, or he’ll finish what he started all those years ago. One thing is certain: only one of them will stay alive. A Nightmare on Elm StreetYes, we do know that this is now the 2nd official remake of the classic horror story, but what can we say – Hollywood really loves Freddy Krueger.
Unfortunately, there’s very little information about the director, the screenwriters, and the cast. The plot is also unknown; at the same time, you can almost predict what the film is going to be about.With reboots dominating the industry these days, it’s time for a really good one to prove that they are, indeed, worth our while.
As far as the list of the TOP 10 best modern Horror films 2018 goes, we’re really hoping that the new Krueger installation will be a standout cut. The Purge 4This series that started as just another horror film has turned into a mighty franchise over the years. People love it for that crazy plot, the solid acting, and the unique atmosphere. Chapter #4 will be a prequel and take us back to the very beginning. What made the government come up with the idea of the purge? Who was responsible for it?
And what events led to this insane tradition? You’ll get all the answers next year. So, make yourself a nice cup of whatever and start counting the days on the calendar. The movie is set to arrive in the States on July 4, 2018. King has more than a few bestselling novels behind his back. And, some of the big-screen adaptions of his masterpieces turn into modern-day classics.
IT is one of the man’s finest works. It follows a gruesome clone that’s been hunting innocent little kids for centuries. This time around, it’s terrorizing a small town in Maine.The grown-ups don’t believe the children and they are forced to fight this scary entity on their own. You can’t strike a deal with Pennywise – only face your deepest fears and confront the monster. Will these brave kids find out a way to kill the clown? IT definitely makes it into the list of the TOP 10 best recent Horror movies. SlendermanEven if you’re not a fan of Internet memes, you must’veheard about this phenomenon.
The Slenderman originated back in 2009 and is today one of the most popular villains in modern-day culture. As for this film, it’s the first big Hollywood production based on the fearsome character. Without a doubt, the genre could use a breath of fresh air, and it seems like Slenderman could turn into the new iconic bad guy. Only time will tell, though. If you’re a fan of horrors, you simply have to check it out. If not, well, wait for the first reviews 🙂. Insidious: The Last KeyThis is the 4th chapter in the crowd-pleasing franchise.
The Last Key is a prequel and will be focused on the young Elise and her first encounter with the Further. There’s a terrifying evil spirit in her house, and it wants to take over her soul. That’s pretty much all we know about the fourth installment at this moment; it’s still the most anticipated release for us.
