When the new kids pop up at 14 (if you are using stainless steel) ship them off to one of your university cities for a few years until they are 18-20 and then start shipping them around.They should pick up College Educated, military student, and a bunch of useful retinue/items in that time. If I remember correctly, there's a file called 'exportdescrcharactertraits.txt' that lists all of the code triggers. If you got time try reading that.The big takeaway is that most of the bad traits are keyed to a character spending an entire turn inside a city without using move points; traits like drunkenness, laziness or greed can be avoided by moving a character in and out of the city every turn.

As long as they move they don't pick up vices.Good traits pop up when your character begins a turn inside a city that completes a building.I remember someone back in the day wrote a really good guide for developing characters in RTW. Some googling should point you towards it.
