My LCD rotates. The software that comes with my ATI card to rotate the desktop just crashes ( I've uninstalled, reinstalled and rolled them back, still crashes). I (as the only administrator) decided I liked the XP settings after a period and set them accordingly.
However, they absolutely refuse to stay put. When I log on at first the screen colours look odd and then at some 'random' time a wee blue thing comes up, gives a squelch sound and asks me to wait (usually 10 seconds or so) during which time I can't do anything.

IT'S ABOUT 1/2' TALL AND ABOUT 3' LONG. IN THIS BOX WILL BE LEFTOVER CHARACTERS FROM WHATEVER WINDOW WAS OPENED LAST. IF THEY RESTORE A WINDOW AND THEN MINIMIZE IT, THE BOX WILL THEN DISPLAY LEFTOVER CHARACTERS FROM THAT WINDOW.
SO FAR THE ONLY WAY WE'VE FOUND TO GET RID OF THIS BOX IS TO CLOSE ALL APPLICATIONS AND REFRESH THE SCREEN. REFRESHING THE SCRE.
